Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I was working with an open source copilot extension that provides a tool to Copilot and I thought that this Plugin should do the same. That way I can ask Copilot for jira tickets

Describe the solution you'd like
I won't go into details of how a Copilot Tool extension works but I could imagine in the chat with Copilot specifying something like #jira MyActive and it uses the custom JQL to fetch a list of Jira tickets. Copilot will respond to the user with the list formatted. Links to tickets open the ticket in the Atlassian plugin (instead of opening a browser)

Describe alternatives you've considered
Have not considered anything else

Additional context
I suspect this won't go far since I think Atlassian is doing this with a separate plugin that probably costs an arm and a leg. either way I think when the Jira ticket comes back it should use this plugin when you click the ticket in the chat window

@gpinkham Great feedback! Have you tried using this? Not part of our extension, but perhaps it solves some (but not all) of your problems.

I sent a message to Atlassian asking what the price point is. I see there is a copilot extension. But mentions rovo. Does it require rovo and its hefty price tag? Or can I use the plug-in to query jira without robot enabled in jira?

@bwieger-atlassian-com I tried to install it but it requires Rovo on the Jira site which we do not have and do not ever plan to use so yeah I will probably continue with the other project to integrate jira into copilot myself.

@gpinkham , are you on Jira Cloud or Jira Data Center / Server?

@gpinkham Ah! Well, let's chat in a few days after some announcements at Team '25.

Just my 2p's worth on this now that the Rovo announcement is out - that is really good and we're looking forward to getting stuck in, however I think this suggestion is still valid for 2 reasons:

  • Exposing tools in VSCode allows them to be used in Agent mode - at the moment (and I don't see this in the roadmap either) Copilot extensions are not available as available tools in Agent mode
  • Using GitHub Copilot extensions seems to use up the newly announced premium request quota, whereas using agent mode with the base model would be part of the "unlimited" usage for subscribers

I guess at this stage even a VSCode level integration for Rovo specifically might be useful, rather than Jira directly, but either way, it feels like there's a good opportunity for you to deliver some really valuable integration here.

This is something the team is considering.

Curious, what are the specific moments you'd like to use Rovo in VSCode?
